The biggest threat to mankind is a solar mass coronal ejection. Look at the Carrington event in 1859. It was like an EMP and is past due for another one. All electronics in the world will be fried. People will die from heat/cold, starvation, cars would be disabled. This type of superstorm has happened on an average of every 25 years over the last 150 years.
